Hoover Dam impounds Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States by volume (when
it is full). The dam is located near Boulder City, Nevada, a municipality originally constructed
for workers on the construction project, about 30 mi (48 km) southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada.

1945 (V-J Day), rather than the formal surrender of Japan, which was on 2 September 1945
that officially ended the war in Asia.

About D day: The D simply stands for “day.” The designation was traditionally used for the
date of any important military operation or invasion, according to the National World War
II Museum. Thus, the day before June 6, 1944, was known as D-1 and the days after were
D+1, D+2, D+ and so on
